Despite my prayers for a warm winter, it seems Ohio isn’t listening. This past week has gotten so chilly and we are finally seeing snow. As I write this, there is actually about a centimeter of snow accumulating outside my window…YIKES! I do love the certain Je ne sais quois that snow adds to holiday charm, however I wish it kept to the mountains. I had been battling the need to wear jeans in favor of my skirts the past few weeks but finally gave in to winters call and piled on the cozy layers this week. Cozy style is something us northerners know very well. However, there is a fine line between looking like you have your pajamas on versus being stylishly cozy. Today I’m breaking down my top tips for cozy style.
The Tailored Coat
Nothing saying “I’m put together” like a beautifully tailored coat. It is an essential. A long, wool coat is a beautiful addition to any wardrobe and can blend seamlessly from casual to formal all while keeping you very toasty. I prefer a camel color because I tend to wear a lot of black in the winter so having a lighter coat offsets the -I’m depressed because of winter- vibe. I think a beautiful red or mahogany would also be very nice or even a light grey! There are also several style of this coat. Some have lots of details while others are more simple like mine.
Here is the true key to cozy style that doesn’t look too cozy…accessorize! If you’ve read my content for a while then you know I’m obsessed with handbags. If you are new here then hi, my name is Kelsie and I’m addicted to handbags. Whew, glad we got that out of the way. A good handbag whether it be a tote, cross body, shoulder bag, or clutch, can completely alter an outfit. For this look I chose the Zac Posen bag because the color stayed on theme with the coat and shoes and it is very simple yet unique. I like how it doesn’t distract from the outfit but adds an element of interest. A furry poof hat is pretty much a must have for cozy style and my belt and rings add a little bit of glitz so even if the day is grey theres still sparkle. 😉
See those boots in the flat lay above? Well, I love them but they didn’t fit so back to the store they went and out came my bean boots! Honestly, they are both great options for a snowy winter day. These boots are amazing because you can wear them in both fall and winter. For extra warmth, I highly recommend purchasing the boots lined with shearling. They also work well with this outfit because once again they are that beautiful, camel-tan-chestnut color!
Cozy Style Underneath The Coat
A chunky sweater is a cozy style no-brainer. I love the bright red of the one I’m wearing and the cute heart pattern it features. A cable knit cowl-neck would also give a similar, relaxed vibe, Whereas, a slim turtleneck would give a very streamlined, professional look. When it comes to bottoms, black denim is always my top choice for comfort, warmth, and a refined look.
