With holiday parties rapidly approaching, we are being introduced to seasonal textiles such as velvet. Velvet is a timeless classic that can go from modern glam to sophisticated and chic. When I saw this velvet skirt I fell in love with the beautiful color and the plastic buttons that scream 8o’s to me! A velvet skirt is such a simple way to look fabulous this holiday season.
Styling a Velvet Skirt – Casual
When it comes to styling your velvet skirt think about the mood you want to convey. I was going for casual, playful, and slightly pop-modern. The beautiful shade of purple and the buttons lend to the playful vibe of the outfit. While, the hat, glasses, and boots give it a modern twist. Since the skirt makes a strong statement on its own, I wanted to keep the rest of the look relatively simple. I opted for a lightweight sweater with bouffant sleeves that, in my opinion, are such a cute touch!
For accessories, I wanted to play is very simple. I wore my usual rings and stud earrings and found a handbag that matched the skirt perfectly! Then, I grabbed my current go-to, the baker boy cap and pulled on my trusted over-the-knee boots! As I was running out the door, I grabbed my trench coat which adds a level of sophistication to this very playful look!
Styling a Velvet Skirt – Formal
As I said earlier, a velvet skirt is a versatile piece that can be both casual and dressy. So, to dress this skirt up, I would swap out the boots for a nice pair of pointed toe stilettos. A black patent would be clever because it would tie in the patent leather on the skirt’s buttons. Then, lose the sweater and add a slinky silver blouse. A black fur coat would make a chic statement, while, some subtle bling would add elegance. As far as a handbag, you can never go wrong with a black clutch!
